It is very hard to guess how the houses of the Compito area were in the past, since there is no data witnessing this. The excavations made on the property of Teodorani highlighted pebble foundations of some buildings from the Roman republican age, but no walls were found. They might have been of wood filled with pressed clay or made of bricks. Rooves were definiately made of tiles.
There are also other indications given by found materials: floors in terracotta tiles from the republican age have been found. They were made of small rectangular and
rhombus
tiles. In the imperial age, floors were in mosaic like the one found in the Spalletti’s farm, reproducing a rural
villa
. It was the typical rural house, composed of livings rooms and also rooms used for the production and
conservation
of rural products. Thanks to
somerests
found, it is possible to suppose that in the Compito area there were some
rural
villas.
